New SQL Sentry Team Blogs

Greg Gonzalez, President and CEO of SQL Sentry, and Brooke Philpott, lead developer for SQL Sentry software, recently launched blogs. Greg delves into new features of the software and how to leverage them, and Brooke takes a deep dive into the software development process. Whether you’re an existing customer or evaluating the software, be sure to check out the blogs for valuable insights.

Version 4.1 Available

SQL Sentry version 4.1 is available for download. The newest release contains 20 new features, including many usability improvements as well as an improved initial setup process. Some of the more prominent features include:

  • Improved Performance Advisor dashboard navigation
  • Block chain versioning
  • Export functionality for Performance Advisor data
  • Customizable From Address and Importance settings for all alerts
  • Easier configuration of Performance Advisor-specific actions and settings

An invaluable part of the 4.1 release involved onsite visits with many customers and evaluators both inside the U.S. and in Europe. You’ll find more details about this in Greg’s blog.

If you previously evaluated version 4.0 and would like to take a look at 4.1, just drop us a note and we'll reset your evaluation.

Performance Advisor Helps SQL Server Worldwide Users Group (SSWUG)

Stephen Wynkoop, editor and founder of SSWUG, recently wrote about a SQL Server performance issue he was chasing with one of their critical SQL Servers in the SSWUG newsletter. He received several suggestions on how to solve the problem, and obviously the one from SQL Sentry was to install Performance Advisor. Here is a quick recap of his real-world troubleshooting experience:

"We were having trouble getting real visibility into all of the possible causes, in a cohesive, single look kind of way. It was one thing to look at queries running, another to check counters, yet another to look for lock/blocking. The folks over at SQL Sentry jumped on that and helped us out - they helped show off their new performance dashboard and at the same time shine some serious light on our server and the issues we were seeing. Literally as soon as we fired it up we could see what was happening."

"The key here was that SQL Sentry Performance Advisor - a dashboard tool that does an amazing job helping us dive in to correlated information points - sort of 'show me a complete system picture at this point in time' - and it led to fact-based troubleshooting that solved our problems."
